Tiawan (Formosa) was never a part of China. It was a Japanese possession until after the WW II surrender and Chiang took his Nationalist army there to escape the Communist Chinese armies. China has no legitimate interest in Tiawan other than a capitalist democracy demonstrating the weaknesses of communism.

The arrogance of Chicoms thinking that we need her products to stock the shelves of Walmart is a quite a reach. Tiawan as a trading partner is more important than mainland China. Our ambassador should tell them where to put their exclusive status. This will not happen, of course, because our corporate leaders see the billion plus Chinese as an unlimited market for their goods.
