I'ver voted a straight GOP ticket for 10 years. I've grown increasingly disenchated from '96 on with the lackluster leadership of the Republicans.

But I've voted for wimps and moderates and pro-choicers and weak-on-sovereignty types, as long as they were GOP.

Now, I've become concerned that my loyalty is my weakness, that my vote is taken for granted, so I am not heard. Our franchise is the currency of our democratic republic, so if our public servants do not fear losing our business, what leverage do we have?

Why do you suppose politicians spend so much time courting swing voters?

There are some things I don't support in Bush's administration. There are many I support. I refuse to compare him to Clinton and anyone who does so is absolutely sick.

Now, if he signs CFR, Bush may turn out to be more damaging to this country than Clinton ever was. Pray to God that does not happen because I will turn my back on him and I know a lot of FR will as well, all the while our freedoms would be stifled.

You both make some excellent points and observations . Like you Saber , I have always voted straight gop , from the city commode cleaner to the President . In my observations the 2 dominate parties have simply gotten to cozy together , so the lines have gelled together . I think they court the swing vote because it simply feeds the machine .

Why not put the blame for your disappointment where it belongs.... with Congress ? Why not turn the energy that you expend griping about the President to good use for a change ? Why not try to help the President help the country instead of bashing him ? Lobby those spineless wonders in Congress and tell them the President could use some Pubbies that he can count on. If they're not up to the task tell them you'll find someone who is. Seems to me that would be a much better use of your time and energy than sitting on your behinds complaining about the President.

It's because the swing voters decide the outcome.

Each party can generally count on 40% of the vote, rain or shine. That leaves 20% in play.

That's the 20% they pander to, so I guess I need to be a GOP swing voter.
