"How could this POS and her whiney-assed family not know she was a walking basket-case. They did nothing, and now they are pointing fingers at everyone else...

I am not excusing Andrea Yates, but I know that if I saw a loved one of mine in such a deplorable condition, I would have intervened in some manner."

***BINGO*** Most clear thinking people can't imagine how Russell Yates, a supposedly intelligent man (NASA engineer) couldn't see what was happening right under his nose. Let's see:

His wife was plagued with post partum depression after childbirth and yet he ignored the medical doctor's advice warning that his wife should NOT have more children. Russell is conveniently bashing doctors now, but ignored their advice when it served his own selfish purposes.

After seeking psychiatric help from suicide attempts, Andrea DID admit thoughts of harming her children. This information was shared with Russell Yates. He knew damned well that Andrea had previous thoughts of harming the children.

Andrea quit bathing, smelled and her hair was so filthy it was stuck to her head when her friend came over weeks before she drowned her children. She described Andrea's condition as catitonic. Russell Yates layed down with his stinking wife at night and expects us to believe that he didn't have a clue she wasn't fit to be in charge of his children and that it was the doctor's fault????

Yes, Andrea Yates murdered her children in cold blood and I'm glad she was convicted. Count me in as one who believes that Russell Yates needs to spend the rest of his life in prison as well.

He knows damned well that he left his innocent and helpless children in the care of a mentally impaired woman who was barely able to function, the same woman who had previously uttered thoughts of harming her children. His weird actions speak volumes. I'm more nauseated than ever to hear that he's planning on going on the talk show circuit. I pray the D.A. in Houston will slam his @ss with an indictment for wreckless endangerment, or some sort of negligence for the death of those poor children.

Amen. The only victims were the five precious lives that the murderer Andrea killed - her family is as sickening as she is by trying to present here as a victim. And indeed we trust that this nation has not totally lost its sense of justice and throws the Yates the father in prison, too.

Same here. I have heard on these threads all kinds of excuses for this poor man--what was he supposed to do?---well, he was a government employee who had a very generous amount of leave time that would have allowed him to stay home and care for his family if he cared to do so. (I know about government leave because I used to work for the DOJ so no one needs to give me an argument about that.)

My aunt and uncle watched Kaylynn Williford (2nd chair for the prosecution) grow up and are good friends with her parents. Early on in the trial, I was told that the D.A.'s office was seriously considering bringing charges against Russell Yates. I pray this is true.

Just saw a new thread. "Russell Yates Lashes Out" I'm sure this should be a BARF alert. Check it out.

I agree he should have left the wife and taken the kids away from her any way he could --even if he had to kidnap them to Mexico. She should not have been in that same house with those little children.

I think he should have kept working but he should have committed Andrea to a state institution or somehow arranged it so she could never be around those kids ---she must have made their lives hell the whole while they were alive ---you should not have a homocidal maniac living with your children.

Agreed.... Now, after his children are murdered and his wife is locked up, he'll use his leave time. He's got to get on the campaign trail and try to drum up sympathy (barf).

Hopefully, the D.A. won't waste anytime and will indict him a.s.a.p. before he gets too comfortable playing "celebrity".

Mr. Yates also harshly criticized the gag order imposed by Judge Belinda Hill in his wife's case. The order made it impossible for him to respond to criticism and innuendo aimed at him and his family, he said. "Not only was it unconstitutional, but it was personally injurious to me," he said. Judge Hill has not yet said how she plans to proceed with allegations that Mr. Yates violated her gag order.

Some gag order -- a few months ago he appeared on Sixty Minutes, for goodness sakes! It seems pretty clear-cut that he violated the gag order; when is the judge going to do something about it?

Oh yeah, I would wager he's got six months or more that he can play his media campaign. I pray that there are enough thinkers out here that it is not "going to play in Peoria."

Hope you're right and the public shames him back into silence. Otherwise, we'll be seeing his ugly grinning mug on t.v. everyday.
