"Most of the illegals in the US are Catholics, which is a western religion(although to many on FR, Catholicism is the root of all evil and I thought those neanderthal days were over) , and they speak a Western language, Spanish.

Does a person's religion and native language define them as a part of Westrn Civilization ? If so, Haitians who are overwhelmingly Catholic and speak French as well as Fillipinos who have Spanish surnames and are Catholic as well as many Hong Kong Chinese who speak English and are Christian as well as many South African blacks that speak English and are Christian etc. are all included as representatives of Western Civilization. Now personally, I think that is pushing the envelope a bit. Kind of like the Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places. Does a person's identity completely change if their language and religion changes ? What defines Western Culture ? Is Western Culture epitomized by a language or religion native to Europe ? How does the philosophy and culture engendered by Greco-Roman Western Civilization fit into this ? I think Western Culture / Civilization is deeper than just a religion or language.

In furtherance of post 135 above: The Mexican Culture is a unique culture, as unique as the Mestizo Race that primarily constitutes that nation. Their culture has been heavily influenced by the Catholic Church as well as by a remnant of the Spanish Colonial influence but it is Mexican Culture and as such it is not part of Western Culture any more than the ancient Aztec civilization is part of Western culture. There are Mexicans who could, due to family environment and upbringing be considered part of Western culture, but the average Mexican is of the Mexican culture.
