You are avoiding reality. These guys were most probably protecting smugglers. If you don't live out here you have no clue as to what goes on. There are alot more incursions that do not get reported. The rural areas of Eastern San Diego county are a war zone with constant smuggling and other crimes. Many people have moved out of their ranches because of the constant problems. Washington does not care. I suspect money is being made in many places that allows this to go on.

I am afraid that you may be right, I hadn't considered how corrupt the Mexican Government is generally. I am sure that the Mexican Army does not want to tango with the U.S. Army, regardless of what they think of us. But I guess we do have to consider the distinct possibility that corrupt members may be aiding penetration of our borders. So it is altogether likely the penetration was intentional, though not authorized. I guess we should see how the Mexican Army puts policies in place to prevent a recurrence.

If the SW was still Mexican, it would be as poor and corrupt as the rest of Mexico.
