I, too escaped from the "State of Taxes" a few years ago. I'm visiting there tonight, though...I still have a few friends there. BTW, I was wrong about one thing. The collar tab is on the correct side. The SS tab was on the wearer's right, while the rank was usually worn on the left. It is interesting to note that only SS units mustered from etnically German provinces could wear the SS tab. Units of other ethnicities had to wear different insignia on this tab, even though they were part of the Waffen-SS. As a further side note, the blackish-green collar waffenfarb (service branch color) indicates Wehrmacht infantry.

Additionally, the poor prisoner in the background is wearing a single red triangle. If I recall correctly, this means that he is a communist, not a Jew. The Jews were made to wear a star of David formed of crossed yellow triangles. If the Jew were also a communist, the triangle wad formed of a red triangle superimposed on a yellow triangle. If the Jew were also a homosexual, the topmost triangle was pink, etc.
So everyone can relax, knowing that the poor guy isn't a Jew. He's just a commie. He's probably a Maryland politician himself...
