Rush's 'Vapor Trails' Due In May

Canadian power trio Rush has set a May 14 release date for its upcoming Anthem/Atlantic album, "Vapor Trails." As previously reported, the set was recorded in Toronto, with band members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart serving as producers and longtime collaborator Paul Northfield engineering. A North American tour in support of "Vapor Trails" is expected to begin in June.

The new album, the follow-up to 1996's "Test for Echo," features 13 tracks. Opener "One Little Victory" is described by the label as "propulsive," while "Sweet Miracle" is said to be "emotive," and "How It Is" has been deemed "kinetic." A first single has not yet been announced.

"Test for Echo" was a No. 5 hit on The Billboard 200, with its title track vaulting to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and "Half the World" reaching No. 6 on the same tally. "Different Stages," a three-CD live album spanning shows from 1978, 1994, and 1997, bowed at No. 35 on The Billboard 200 in November 1998. Lee released his Atlantic solo debut, "My Favorite Headache," in December 2000.

Drummer Neil Peart has also written a new book called " Ghost Rider", a 400 plus page book on his experiences on the road and off the road during Rush's Test For Echo tour, and the experiences of losing his daughter Selena in 1997 who was killed in a car crash in Ontario. As well as the sudden death of his wife Jacqueline 10 months later from cancer. The book will expose a 5 year black out by Peart on his emotions and recovery of the loss in his life.

Peart remarried in 2000 to photographer Carrie Nutall and reside in Santa Barbara, California where Peart relocated to moving from his Ontario home.

Here is the tracklist for "Vapor Trails":

"One Little Victory"
"Peaceable Kingdom"
"Ghost Rider"
"Ceiling Unlimited"
"The Stars Look Down"
"How It Is"
"Vapor Trail"
"Out of the Cradle"
"Earthshine"
"Sweet Miracle"
"Nocturne"
"Freeze (Part IV of 'Fear')"
"Secret Touch"

Damn! Small world. And how cool is it for your words to end up on such a great band's song?

"Rush is "The thinking man's" rock-n-roll band, to be sure...."

What is amazing about these guys is they really don't play in a "key" rather they weave in and out of "modes"! Only two other bands I can think of, in the wide and varied "rock" catagory, manage to pull this off and I am virtually certain neither of them are even conscious of the fact.

LOL. Alex. That dude slays me. All three of the guys are wizards, but I've always thought that Alex is the genius that makes Rush truly unique.

I first heard the song "Red Sector A" while reading Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "The Gulag Archipelago". The two definitely go hand in hand.

Red Sector A

All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive

Ragged lines of ragged grey
Skeletons, they shuffle away
Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal
A heart that cannot feel
Hoping that the horror will recede
Hoping that tomorrow we'll all be freed

Sickness to insanity
Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Don't feel the hunger
Too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
Are the liberators here?
Do I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, it's too late
But I must help my mother stand up straight

Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARCH 15, 2002

RUSH REVEAL VAPOR TRAILS TRIO'S FIRST ALL-NEW ALBUM IN 5 YEARS DUE MAY 14TH; "ONE LITTLE VICTORY" HITS ROCK RADIO IN APRIL; NORTH AMERICAN TOUR PLANNED FOR SUMMER/FALL

Anthem/Universal Music recording group Rush has announced details of their eagerly awaited new album, VAPOR TRAILS. The 13-track collection, produced by Rush with engineer Paul Northfield (Marilyn Manson, Hole), is set for release on May 14, 2002.

VAPOR TRAILS sees the legendary power trio - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart - redefining their intensely individualistic music, blending their famously complex dynamics with driving melodic hooks and a passionate, personal lyrical approach. Tracks like the kinetic "How It Is," the emotive "Sweet Miracle," and the propulsive album-opening "One Little Victory" are angular, atmospheric and altogether extraordinary. With the visionary new VAPOR TRAILS, Rush has taken a bold step forward, making it clear that one of rock 'n' roll's all-time great bands are more than just back, they're better than ever.

The album will be heralded by the single, "One Little Victory," slated to ship to rock radio outlets nationwide on March 29. The band is currently finalizing plans for a major North American tour. Tentatively set to kick off in late June, the trek will mark Rush's first live performances since July 1997. The tour's first leg will be announced shortly.

VAPOR TRAILS is Rush's 17th studio recording, and their first all-new collection in over 5 years. The Canadian trio's 22 albums have virtually all been certified CRIA platinum-or-better, with cumulative worldwide sales of over 35 million. The band were inducted into the Juno Awards Hall of Fame in 1994, received the esteemed Order of Canada in 1997 and were given their own star on the Canadian Walk of Fame in 1999.

Rush - VAPOR TRAILS Track Listing
1. "One Little Victory"

Thanks for the information. I'll never forget my first Rush show. It was like the first time I read a book someone didn't jam down my throat.

I'll be there this summer surrounded by a sea of fans and loving every minute.

... their great-grandchildren?

My thought too. Friends in the late '70s came back from an Aerosmith concert in Montreal, raving about the opening
band, Rush. Still remember them going on & on about the drummer.

Then again, there's Aerosmith. Heard the Doors' keyboardist on the radio pushing another book a month or so ago too.
