HonestReporting.com: Bramford claims that on the day prior to the Liberty incident, Israeli troops were massacring hundreds of Egyptian POWs and civilians in El Arish. Bamford concludes: "Israel's commanders would not have wanted tape recordings of evidence of the slaughters to wind up on desks at the White House, the UN or the Washington Post."

I don't particularly care for Bamford's tone in the U.S.S. Liberty chapter in "Body of Secrets." There's too much editorializing and he clearly doesn't trust Israel. That said, I'm not sure HonestReporting.com is any better, and maybe less accurate. In the above quoted section, HonestReporting.com says that Bamford "claims" that Israeli soldiers were massacring hundreds of Egyptian POWs in the Sinai and at El Arish. The implication is this is just another Bamford fantasy for which there is no proof. In fact, in August and September of 1995, New York Times, the Washington Post and Newsday all ran stories on the massacres, quoting a retired IDF general, an Israeli historian and even Ariel Sharon, who admits the killings happened but says it was a different time then and in any case he only learned of them after the event.
