"Females tend to be the choosier sex when it comes to selecting a mate, partly because males can produce millions of sperm, whereas females' eggs are few and far between."
Then, later, it states:
"...the question of why females discriminate, rather than mate at random, remains largely unresolved."
They could've used a good editor, and the first statement borders on the riculous. How many females go around keeping track of their eggs and selecting partners in manner so they don't squander them? The answer is none. "Why" questions are hard to deal with by science and good scientists should know better than to infer cause and effect, when it's not known, by such circular reasoning.
