LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) -- An Egyptian national arrested for allegedly showing a fake ID at a nightclub was ordered held without bail after authorities said he was carrying "documents known to be affiliated with active terrorism networks."
Ahmed Ebrahim Moussa, 25, was detained shortly after midnight on March 7 at The Village nightclub in Lancaster after an employee questioned whether his identification card was real.
Police said the card was a forgery and the Social Security number on it was not Moussa's. After his arrest, police said Moussa acknowledged that the card had been made at a shop on 42nd Street in New York City.
In a news release, Lancaster police said Wednesday that Moussa was "in possession of several documents known to be associated with terrorist activities" at the time of his arrest. They would not describe the documents or say why they believed them to be linked to terrorism.
Moussa's attorney, Samuel Encarnacion, told the Intelligencer Journal of Lancaster that he had "seen no proof whatsoever to tie him to any terrorist group."
Encarnacion said Moussa had been staying with his brother, a longtime U.S. citizen who lives in Jersey City, N.J., and was visiting an Egyptian friend in Lancaster, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia, at the time of his arrest.
U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service agent Mark E. Reimann told the newspaper that Moussa's visa had expired and that his request for an extension had been denied. He declined further comment on the case.
Federal prosecutors said they were aware of the case, but were not involved.
"Right now it is being handled as a local matter," Rich Manieri, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia
No problem, he will probably get his amnesty, too.
