Wow!! Memphis is a happining place these days. I'd like to say that I'm happy to be at the eastern end of the state, but considering what's been going on in North Georgia lately, I feel a little funny here as well.
But in all seriousness, I suspect that there was some evidence in that building that someone would like destroyed. Apparently, there is some security there; at least enough that the perp couldn't get the explosives into the right place. Or, perhaps, they were planted strategically to take out some structure that would bring the building down. Stairwells are generally somewhat safe havens in a building, but may also be near strong structural members.
I'd like to see what kind of explosives they were and how strong they were. Could be telling...
