Why can't these people leave their ministry or priesthood if they find that they are having a hard time controling themselves, or maybe try to seek counseling You know, as a life-long member of many churches in several states, and having worked with religious publishing, I think the answer to your question is oddly simple... that these people have invested themselves in a JOB, have "tenure", are educated in the liberal arts and aren't fit for other work.

You make a good point about why these pastors are perhaps reluctant to leave the ministry. If the reason that pastors, with problems, don't leave the ministry is because they have no other job skills, then the denominations should encourage and help potential "problem" pastors to develop some viable job skills so that they can transition out of the ministry before they become a real problem. At the same time, they ought to receive counseling, and be put into some kind of administrative position where they don't have direct contact with youth.
