Actually quite a few of them don't exactly bust their asses anymore

Oh please, there will always be bad apples in every bunch, but that won't stop you from trying to smear all with a broad brush.

If the marriage was fraudulently arranged for the purpose of evading our laws he should be able to enter this country only at his own risk.

The basic problem is illegal immigration fuels depressed property values

What an assine statement. Increased demand for housing causes prices to rise.

I have no objection to the bill as long as section 245 (i) is gone period

And your newest bestest buddy Byrd is holding it all up.

Actually George Washington would have closed the borders to King George III. Come to think of it we actually did that and it was the time when the condition of our beloved Republic was at its happiest in the national memory.

And those people have no obligation to clean your toilets, pick your food, or work in searing heat putting roofs on your buildings, and then go out and buy food, clothes, and other consumer goods in stores in America, but they do it and they do it voluntarily in hope of finding a better life.

Good point - but you forgot something....they have no obligation, but they also have no right to do so, as they are in the country illegally. If they're so interested in finding that better life, why don't they take the steps to join in legally?

The INS has lousy customer service towards legal immigrants who've waited years to apply for the privilege of U.S citizenship, but they move like lightning when it came to bestowing two notorious terrorists with renewed visas. Simply amazing.

It says that they went through a whole lot of trouble and red tape for nothing.

people who "snuck in" are filing with the government a $1000 fee for residency paperwork? Does that sound like someone trying to hide from the law?

Aside from being hopelessly unrealistic, you are ignoring the more obvious political ramifications.

Just for starters, most of the illegals are probably casting ballots anyway (look at LAs lopsided returns in '00) so cutting them a break can only help in that regard. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, this is the ONLY window of opportunity to clean out a large chunk of INS backlog, and given the 9/11 attack, the odds are greatly in favor of most real terrorists having fled the country.IN order for the INS to do its job (Screening incoming humans) properly, they can't be F*ng around with people who are already here and probably staying. They are still being evaluated, just at a lower threshold of scrutiny, since they have DEMONSTRABLE ties to this country (Family or Jobs).

None of the Hijackers fit into that profile/category.

It is hysterics that don't think the issue thru, and all it's attendant ramifications, that make it hard to get things back into working order. This White House did not create this problem, but they are going about fixing it in the most intelligent way, possible. Utopian Of course not. But if it's Utopian Visions you are looking for, the Democratic party would love to sell you any pipe dream you wish, as long as you'll drink the Kool Aid.

Care to provide statistics on just how many illegals are in the country as opposed to how many have actually filed residency paperwork?

TOTALS 263,586 4,114 103,679

Table Glossary:

Encounters (also know as "Enrollments"): The total number of encounters (recorded apprehensions) into the system.

LO Hits: (Lookout Hits) The number of apprehensions involving people who have criminal records in the Lookout Database.

RC Hits: (Recidivist Hits) The number of apprehensions involving people who previously had been apprehended and having at least one record in the recidivist database.

District: The INS District is composed of the land Ports of Entry (Inspections), Airports (Inspections), and the District office (Detention, Deportation & Investigations) within that District.

Sector: The Border Patrol Sector is composed of the Border Patrol Stations and Check Points within that Sector.

Lets do some math.

From 01/01/2002 through 03/10/2002 the INS reported apprehending 263,586 illegal aliens in the US.
Now some of these apprehensions are what we call recidivist apprehensions, so well will subtract the RC HITS from the ENCOUNTERS.

263,586 - 103,679 = 159,907.

So, between 01/01/2002 and 03/10/2002 the INS apprehended approximately 159,907 illegal aliens either attempting to enter the US, or already in the US.

Now the fun numbers.

The Border Patrol estimates that for every illegal they apprehend, 4 slip by. Independent Immigration experts estimate that closer to 9 slip by, for every 1 alien apprehended. For this presentation, I will also use a 1 to 2 ratio.

So, if the INS apprehended 159,907 illegal aliens, the number of aliens that made it through undetected would be as follows:

1 to 2 = 319,814
1 to 4 = 639,628
1 to 9 = 1,439,163

This means, that anywhere from 319,814 to 1,439,163 illegal aliens entered the United States undetected since January 1st, 2002. .

Now for some more disturbing figures.

US and Allied troops that invaded Normandy in 1944 = 250,000 + US troops that invaded Okinawa in 1945 = 550,000+ Illegal aliens that have invaded the US in 2002 = between 319,814 and 1,439,163.

Now imagine that just 1/10 of 1% of those illegals are from Middle Eastern Countries.

We now have between 319 and 1,439 possible terrorist undetected inside

I took this from Marine Inspector's Profile page.

Sleep well.

Uh huh ... then it follows, why should they bother ... wait a while, lay low and another amnesty will come along. So much for the laws of our land.

In this situation the law uniquely awards felons with a special procedure for obtaining "regularization" of their status. I wonder how the lot of the illegal immigration apologists like you and Dane would feel if the government gave criminals in our prisons a "get out of jail" card simply by filling out an application and paying a preset fee.
