Since WWII, we've been on this 'dumbing down of Amerika' progrom!

I am gonna pull a 'Nully' here and play contrarian.

Who is dumber, the baby boomers, or the 25 year old next door neighbor who can program your computer??

There has been only ONE aberrent generation in this century, and it is the Baby Boomers. The Leftist indoctrination did NOT begin until they had control of the educational system.

In politics, despite the fact that Collectivism existed before them, it was the Baby Boomers who were determined to use any means necessary to 'socialize' America, and who have worked tirelessly since they came of age to install it here.

And even so, despite their most vigilant efforts, Gen X-ers are STILL more Libertarian than even the WWII generation. Oh, and my WWII generation Grandparents seek ME out for advice, before they do my Baby Boomer parents.

I don't feel dumbed down...

Ratty, that's because you're special! Seriously though, those of us who were self-motivated as children probably were less likely to be effected by poor education. I always had a need to know and I'm guessing that you'd find that the majority of people who hang out on Free Republic did. The ones who have really paid the price are those who require spoon feeding and a lot of creativity in order to maximize their learning experience and sadly, those things fall way short these days.

I'm too young to be a true baby boomer and too old to be a genXer - my parents are Korean Conflict generation, not WW2. But it was their generation (and Baby Boomer) that let the standards drop and the libs take over. I think of them and my friends' parents and the teachers I had that were their age and big government liberalism was epidemic among them. My sisters, their husbands and I are far more conservative - and so are all of our kids. My parents had no backbones, but I'm not sure if "putting their foot down" with me would have accomplished anything. I did my own thang. They let the "culture" take over with raising the kids, and it's a difficult task to hold the culture at bay now. Their idea of teaching me about boys was to watch "Summer of '42" and read "The Last Convertible" when I was 15.
I just have to make sure my teen-age kids recognize the source of the influence, even if they can't say no to it all now. They'll grow up eventually, and make the right choices.
