In as much as my husband is first generation American, a two tour Viet Nam Vet, and retired Marine whose parents came here from Mexico to escape the Revolution ( his maternal grandparents put his mom in a car with a black family ...that is how dark she was from the sun..) and yes back then they were illegals who never had the advantage of school yet learned both English and Spanish, had 10 kids all of whom bacame very successful but one who is handicapped ..oh and another who is also a retired Marine Viet vet.., people who taught the kids whose first language was Spanish that they must learn English as quickly as possible and to speak Spanish only at home... well all the Mexican bashing just was a bit much. Never mind the fact that there are Irish, English and others who are here illegally too...And no, I don't think people should get amnesty because they came here illegally... but frankly I am sick and tired of all Mexicans being tossed in the same pot with those who are troublesome. Don't forget, Mexicans are not the only group of people who have bad apples in the mix....lets see... Westerfield of San Diego..last time I looked he is white.... H, Rap Brown...he's black...shall we go on? That's why I left the site last night. OUr usual fun thread of banter got hostile. I thought we left those types of hot topics to the threads that dealt with that particular subject. At least Ratty was one who tried to present the other point of view and he did it better than I could cuz I was getting pretty steamed.

The one thing that we can ALL agree on, is that we disagree on nearly everything.

I like feisty people when they are Southern women, and a good spirited debate is healthy.

I will be the first to admit though, that immigration is a VERY polarizing topic. ESPECIALLY in the aftermath of the worst sneak attack this country has ever suffered.

I take people who hold an extreme view, in the totality of what they believe in.

For instance, despite the fact that Swervie is a Satan worshiping Atheist Zoroastrian, I still agree with him that women taste best when they are wearing a light vanilla-based perfume.

I just overlook his un-spiritual, non-religiousity anti-beliefs.

Hey ceegee, Thank you. I'm so glad you decided to tell everyone a little about Ozzie's remarkable family. I had hoped you would do that. If they do not epitomize the American Dream then I don't know who does. Except for Native Americans, all of our families were immigtants at one time or another. My family is something of a melting pot, mostly English and French but I have some Irish heritage as well. Maybe I could be an honorary member of the Irish Mobette Sisterhood... whaddya think ? LOL

Yes, FReeoples has always been a place of refuge, relaxation and often quite lively conversations. On occasion we have some fierce debates resulting from our differing points of view and experineces. BUT it should not ever become a bashing thread, there are plenty of other threads for that.
