I hope so, too. The fact that this took place in Texas provides some hope. But criminal cases involving race have become so politicized that anything could happen.

I'll bet she gets off with an insanity plea. That, added to the fact that her ancestors suffered 400 years of slavery and racism is so pervasive in our society that she could not have acted in any other way, means she will probably get a slap on the wrist and be back on welfare and food stamps within months.

I don't see an insanity defense working. She had a live-in boyfriend who also refused to help. Was her insanity contagious?

Yes. If it happened in another state, I would be worried. For Texas it might be well within the norm so lawyer has a point when he says that the case is "overblown".
