According to the Current Population Survey (CPS) conducted in March 2000 by the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 28.4 million immigrants living in the United States. Immigrants now account for 10.4 percent of all residents – the highest percentage in 70 years. Of greater concern, is the documented estimate that more than 1.2 million legal and illegal immigrants combined now settle in the United States each year. (more)
