Why are we discussing paint? Can a car run without paint? Yes. Can a computer run without an operating system? No. Not that it much matters, but my analogy of the Car to the paint was as the OS to the browser. :)

"Not that it much matters, but my analogy of the Car to the paint was as the OS to the browser. :)" These days a browser is a necessary part of any nontrivial OS. Any current art OS is expected to support at the very least the most-used networking protocols, and HTTP is at the top of that heap.
