I was thinking the same thing. Then there's Chafee who might be the next Jeffords. I think the GOP needs at least a 53-47 advantage after the Nov. elections, otherwise these snakes will have tremendous leverage.
Just watch, if there is a 50-50 tie, the media will immediately start asking (suggesting?) McCain whether he plans to switch. He'd probably give an ambiguous response. I am praying they can get at least a 53-47 majority this fall.
It's got to happen. There is just too much backlog on bills, the war effort, a defense budget, and judicial nominees.
