It still boggles my mind that the wife saw that the security system had been breached and didn't do at the very least do a perfunctory search. Mrs.Lone and I do that every night we go to bed just out of habit from when our two were babies and just don't feel comfortable if we don't at least peek in at them.
I see no grief in their eyes.
.
Let's hope they have the cojones to pursue the death penalty. If not, then just let him go free, so that the father, if he has a shred of honor left in him after all that has been disclosed about his lifestyle, can do what should be done and send this child molesting bastard to hell.
Good observation, I have never noticed him struggling back tears....Even police who respond to these kinds of things and have to become desensitized to deal with it lose their composure when they come upon children like this. Makes you wonder.
Somehow, and lost in the story, we haven't heard much about the morning Danielle turned up missing when Damon asked a "neighbor" if he had seen Danielle, citing the child "sleepwalked".
SLEEP-WALKING is another reason a parent would check on a child if the security system flashed red, IMHO.
sw
Do you have a wierd feeling about these parents too? I just annoys me that a father would be in the house while the child is being kidnapped and not hear a thing but conveniently wakes up when his wife comes home and joins the party and doesn't even check on the child. I am not saying that Westerfield didn't do it. I am sure he did - he is pond scum - but I don't think the parents are all that innocent in this.
It does hit home big time when someone you know is in the neighborhood, doesn't it? My brother lives in Rancho Cordova. When Nickolai Soltys was found to have killed all those folks in that area last year, I sent my brother an e-mail to find out how close to him. He said the folks were killed about 1 mile from his house and about 2 blocks from his sons apartment.
In 1996, a woman in my town murdered her two sons. Stabbed them to death. She and her husband worked at the same company I did in the late 80s, early 90s. I knew Darin, her husband, better than I knew her. Her name was Darlie Routier and she was found guilty here in Texas and now sits on death row waiting. . .
You are right. Look at John Walsh and his wife. She had to be sedated and he trashed his hotel room. You could see the anquish on their faces everyday.
Title: The Sexualy Sadistic Serial Killer
Dr. Janet Warren, Robert Hazelwood, Special Supervisory Agent of the FBI National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, and Park Dietz of the UCLA School of Medicine have completed a study of the sexually sadistic serial killer. The research was based on twenty men who demonstrated enduring patterns of sexual arousal to images of suffering and who had killed at least three victims in at least three separate incidents. Together, these men were responsible for 149 murders throughout the United States and Canada. They represent a distinctive type of serial murderer whose expertise and thoroughness make them a particularly dangerous threat to society. Their murders, remarkably consistent over time, reflected sexual arousal to the pain, fear and panic of their victims. Choreographed assaults allowed them to intrude into and control their victims' deaths. Some of the men reported that the sense of being God-like and in control of the life and death of another human being to be one of the most exhilarating aspects of their crimes.
Of the sample, 95 percent were white males and 65 percent came from middle class backgrounds. However, at least half had familiy histories that included infidelity and divorce, suggesting that chaotic or unstable early life are more likely to be associated with these offenders that lower class origins. Unlike other types of sex offenders, sexually sadistic serial murderers generally had no arrest record prior to their arrest for murder. This fact, combined with their highly specific criminal intent, makes their identification and apprehension especially difficult.
The sample revealed that these men usually displayed numerous other paraphilias -- such as voyeurism, obscene phone calls, exhibitionism and fetishism -- simultaneously with their sadistic behavior. Consistent violent fantasies, featuring a ritualized, repetitive core, were present in 85 percent of the group. The assimilation of the core fantasy into repetitious behavior across successive murders suggests that the fantasies are the script followed by the offender during his crime. Evidence of such scripted behavior can be useful in linking offenses by the same offender. Similarly, 75 percent of the murderers in the study kept collections of a violent theme, including audiotapes, videotapes, pictures or sketches of the subject's sadistic acts, sexually sadistic pornography or various types of weapons. Discovery of such a collection can help prove the perpetrator's guilt. Finally, the study helped dispel the belief that such men were "insane." Instead, it was shown that the majority of these men engaged in extensive patterns of anti-social behavior in adult life, suggesting that their criminal behavior extends from character pathology rather than psychosis.

It is a shame.
You and your wife's habit is what normal parents do. These guys are not like most people I think. From watching them on the TV, I never thought that they killed the girl or had anyone do it, though. I haven't followed this case real closely, so I may be missing relevant info, I don't know. . .
