This is so much BS. Was the guy's ship to address in Sudan? From what I have heard it was going to a US Address. THE ORDER WAS NOT AN EXPORT ORDER Nice try Michael. Give me a break.

The ONLY reason this order was cancelled was because of the name of the business.
I have now changed my business name to Warhead Graphics.

Thank you for posting this. I hope some of the other fire, aim, ready posters handle their guns more maturely than they handled this situation.

Look, you now have a statement from Mr. Dell taking responsibility for what he admitted was a screw up. Many of you guys have been acting like this was some kind of coordinated policy to make sure no gun owners had computers.

This is a screw up by a couple of individuals in a really big company that has caused an awful lot of knee-jerk hysteria. There is no dark conspiracy here!

Perhaps if Mr. Weigand had donated $1 million to the DNC ala Loral he too could get an export waiver.

Huh?...he's not outside the U.S.?

Nevermind.

I was being sarcastic.
Anyone who relies on software to "decide" what to allow, or who to do business with is lazy at best. I don't want to buy from anti-2A firms, and I don't want to buy from stupid ones either.

Sorry about your Dell problem. However, I have no intention of getting rid of my guns OR my Dell. And I recommend Dell's to everyone I know because they are an excellent product and offer great support and next-day repair (which I've seen in action).

Your lack of principles is duly noted.

The difference is that you're dealing with a sales rep; a human. It sounds like Mr. Weigand was dealing directly with Dell through their website. It's at that point that their bigoted keyword filter kicked in. Your sales rep is getting around that filter. Dell, rather than making excuses, should delete the keyword filtering.

I have no association with Weigand Combat Handguns. I'm just posting the information I have on the incident.

Not to be crassly commercial, but my company is in the hardware/software distribution business.

ahem, not to be crassly FReepercial, but at least your marketing technique does not include defining the word Gun too un-PC for your PCs. Dell can go stuff it indeed.

Export laws? To Pennsylvania??? Give me a break. Could Michael Dell really think that pitiful excuse would handle the situation. Wonder if Fox news will pick up on this.

Good for you. What a miserable life you must live. When someone makes a mistake you allow for no opportunity to correct it. And you're proud of it…

News flash: We all make mistakes, including you.

What differentiates us is what we do about our mistakes and if we allow others to honorably make right their errors.

We know where you stand…

Your lack of principles is duly noted.

If your "principles" is to shoot at an excellent AMERICAN company that takes responsibility at the highest levels for an honest mistake, please add me to your bad list. Thank you.

To Our Valued Customers and Friends:

Not even close to a good excuse. Would they sell (or have they sold) computers to the major domestic terrorist organization, Earth Liberation Front? To ELF's major supporters? What name flags would stop these sales?

Someone in Dell, maybe Michael, maybe someone else, just doesn't want to sell to someone in the firearms industry. If it isn't Michael he needs to get rid of them. If it is him his company needs all the grief coming to them. I don't use Dell products but I'll be interested to see if they can come up with the real reason for this fiasco.

I think you need to rethink that position.

That "lack of principles" works both ways. What about the principle of allowing one to correct one's error? If Dell chooses not to, then shame on them, if they recognize the error and offer to correct it then shame on you.

You make any errors? Are you grateful when others are honorable enough to let you correct it and not simply pass final judgment on you?

Someone places a single Web order that gets canceled because of the word "combat" in the company name. On further review it is found that the order was canceled in error and readily stated as such. The company offers to re-instate the order. But no, that isn't good enough… Let's make final judgment on the company… Lets cast fire and ill will at it…

And you think that is honorable?

Myself, I've made plenty of errors… I am thankful for those that give me the opportunity to correct them and move on. I thought we shared that as common principle.

I was a bit surprised when you referred to Dell as an excellent product...I guess there are also those who said the same thing about Packard-Bell. Low demand and low expectations will allow a person to be satisfied with lower capabilities.

Just about all the "package" computers have their weaknesses..the same thing that allows them to be lower priced, whether it be a so-so video card, a low end sound card or whatever. I've always had better luck assembling my own so that I can get a combination of the best components.

I currently handle 67 pc's, all of which were built from the power supply and motherboard on up and the downtime is virtualy non-existant. I only wish it were as simple to build one's own car using all top of the line parts. Never have believed in the "one size fits all" system because it always involves compromise at some point.

As far as Dell itself is concerned, I am glad you found someone who got good service from them, especially after reading a laundry list of complaints about them in InfoWorld (Ed Foster column)

http://www.infoworld.com/articles/op/xml/01/10/15/011015opfoster.xml

Sounds more like you had good luck than anything else...hey I have a neighbor who has a Yugo and it still runs.
