Savage on Campaign Finance Reform CFR - I don't get it
me

Posted on 02/22/2002 11:04:07 AM PST by fishtank

Could a Freeper who agrees with what I write here try to call Michael Savage and ask him to reconsider his support for CFR -Campaign Finance Reform?

I can only see that CFR will harm the efforts of grass-roots organizations like various pro-life organizations, small business lobby organizations, the NRA (National Rifle Association), etc.

What do you all think?

And did you hear him attack Limbaugh? A disc jockey who got lucky? Green with envy; he'll never be one-tenth of what Rush is. The nerve of him to suggest that everyone's been brainwashed by Rush!!

For one thing I really don't listen to Limbaugh all that much anymore, and for the very reason you mention: It's all redundant with the advent of Free Republic.

However, between the two I'll take Rush, because he has a brilliant way of analyzing the data.

The couple of times I've heard Savage, it's like one of the most knee-jerk FReepers captured a microphone and was ranting on and on about how "scared" all the powers-that-be were now that he could be heard by everyone who "cared".

He spent all this time talking about the fear, and zero time justifying it.

Do you have a Doctorate? If not, then how can you possibly challenge his intellect?

I do ... and I think Savage is an idiot too

who COULD he be talking about?

Well, he mentioned that the guy likes to talk about golf a lot.
Narrows the range a bit.

Savage's support of Shays-Meehan is a case of him buying into the ruse to assuage the restless slumber of the American electorate. No incumbent will be hurt in any way by it's enactment. Sellers of advertising will be affected, and that's where the cries of pain are arising. Rush says it's a constitutional issue, but that's simply because it's his ox being gored.

Meaningful CFR would be a damn good idea, but I don't want to stop anyone's excercize of speech. I would simply make it illegal for any PAC, corporation, union, or "special interest group" of any kind to hide their contribution behind an acronym. Any American citizen should be able to support his candidate in whatever fashion he sees fit as long as he is willing to put his own name on the contribution. And as long as he can prove that he was personally responsible for whatever cost his contribution incurred.

You cannot buy what isn't for sale. Get rid of the "For Sale" politicians.

And the politician cannot sell if he doesn't know who the buyer is! Simply permit any and all donations to party or candidate, but require that the source remain anonymous. Make it a felony to disclose the source of contributions. Take one of the existing useless federal agencies and assign it the duty of collecting and disbursing the funds.

That permits individuals, corporations, unions etc. to support parties or candidates as they see fit, in keeping with the spirit of the first amendment, without allowing them to buy influence.

That guy and all the other "conservative" talk show hosts, from the smallest local guy to the itchin'-for-the-big-time types like Glenn Beck, have Rush to thank for the opportunity they have. No matter what else they might say, if they don't admit that they're ingrates.

Are you crazy!
The exact opposite is needed.
Full disclosure of who got what from whom.

See my number 30...I didn't see your 29 until after I posted. Looks like we have two totally opposite possibilities to consider!

Now if we can all discuss them without hollerin' at each other...;)

Frankly, I don't think Savage has fully studied the implications involved in CFR, particularly the fact that CFR as it was passed will not allow any ad critical of a candidate and/or issue 60 days before an election, or 30 days before a primary.

He let McCain slide by any mention of his involvement with Global Crossing.

He seems to believe that CFR will stop the big money interests from influencing the votes of elected office holders and open the doors to more challengers and is not a violation of our Constitution. Savage's views are completely the opposite of Rush Limbaugh's position on CFR.

Mighty confusing to a listener of both programs.

What did he say? I missed it.

Sorry, don't remember exactly.

But Savage,
almost on every show,
mentions that he is not interested in cigars or golf.

(But believe it or not,
I heard him say something favorable
about Rush
the other day.)

I only listened to Savage one time, and the subject was immigration. He seemed unknowledgeable on the more intricate details of the subject, and therefore more inciteful than insightful.
