But consider this, If GW vetos this bill, it comes back next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.
This bill will be an issue in Congress because Senator McCain and his allies have hung their political hats on it. It is their only issue. Therefore McCain will always be in position to skew the legislative process, to hold bills hostage for the sake of his precious CFR.
The ONLY way to keep this bill off the table, and McCain off the evening news, and out of the legislative process is either to defeat John McCain (Are you listening Arizonia?), or have it declared unconstitutional.
Don't hang your hopes on the idea that future bills will be more respective of the 1st Amendment either. McCain got his butt kicked by special interrest groups (Christian Colilition) when he ran for the nomination. Every since he has been attacking those Conservative special intrest groups he feels defeated him (Christian groups, Right to Life, NRA). McCain is a typical elitest Republican, (what Rush calls the Country Club Republicans), and he is shamed that these above named groups have a home in the GOP. He fully intends to take issue-ads (the weapons of choice for these groups)out of play.
Unless we want this fight every year this is how it will have to be.
I would love to see GW veto this thing, but he is going to have to decide if he wants this kind of a distractor every year while trying to fight a war.
