The main points of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's address to the nation Thursday night:

* These are difficult times in which we must remain calm, balanced, and restrained

* We must maintain calm regarding war and peace and must not act recklessly

* I am worried not by our ability to deal with and solve problems, but by the gap between our actual abilities and the ungrounded doubt that we ourselves place on our abilities

*We are proud of our democracy and desire peace with our neighbors, even if it means making concessions

*For real peace we will make painful concessions, but no concessions will be made regarding Israel's security
