Is it not true that the Eastern tradition sees salvation as a cooperation between God and man? As such, it is a syncretistic operation involving the melding of the will of man with the grace of God.

I'd say you're close but not quite on the money here. The Eastern tradition holds that God extends grace and man accepts it. That's not the same, to me anyhow, as a 'melding' of the two. Without God's grace extended to all, it wouldn't matter what man wanted.

The phrase "melding the will of man with the grace of God" is one that I learned from a Greek Orthodox priest. If it does not accurately define your branch of the Eastern tradition then I apologize.

(However, though I respect this man, I still reject his soteriology.)
