The reporter is an idiot, too. Years and years ago I had a good friend who grew up in Alabama. His wife left him for her secret lesbian lover ..... she was awarded custody of both children, the doggie and she was awarded the house. That poor man was miseable for a year .... but slowly came around to realize he ex-wife was a sick, vile witch anyway.

I don't know wether the judge in this case based his ruling on law and precedent but the insertion of his personal political and religious opinions smacks of the worst sort of judicial activism that usually comes from the Left and a judge that does so has no place on the bench.

I agree. This judge is a whack job. He does not belong on the bench. I agree with the decision btw, all else being equal, the lesbian mother should lose custody, however this guy has no judicial temperment. Quoting scripture, and calling this woman evil, while interpreting not the bible, but the constitution of the US and Alabama shows how far gone this guy is.

This is just dying for an overturn by the US Supreme Court because of his language. Again, I agree with the position, just not how he expresses it. This man is a judge, not a sunday school teacher.

I am happy to see that there is a God fearing judge left in this country, with a few more judges like this we can turn this country around. It is plain to me that you are a child of the cultural revolution. You and the people like you DO NOT represent red-blooded America. Go back to red China.

I didn't say that nor do I advocate it. A judge should base his decisions on law and law only- not his personal beliefs. That is what conservatives say they oppose. If the law says that gays should not have custody then so be it- that is what a good judge bases his decision on- not the bible- not his opinion. If the law is unclear- you look for what other judges have done in the past or how similiar cases have ruled and base your decision on that. If the law says that "gayness" should not be a factor then you rule as if it shouldn't be. The law is what is passed by the people and their reps- not what a judge decides- liberal or conservative.

Hmmm. By that thinking, what about the thousands of judges in this country who have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they cannot judge people of Christian morals fairly. Should they be removed too?

I'm afraid many of our founding fathers would have upset you terribly. Keep in mind that they were not afraid to interject theology into their decision making processes. When one adheres to a Judeo-Christian world view, that view will come into play when making, and in a judges case, rendering decisions.

No I am not. We don't need "god Fearing" judges. We need a god fearing people. What we need are judges that will rule on the written law and not insert their own values. Perhaps you want religious judges to make up law based on their particular religious beliefs and not the will of the people? You are the one who is counter cultural. We are so used to judges making up law no matter how the actual law reads that when a conservative does it we applaud it. I may agree that a gay parent should never have custody over a straight one. But I will be dammned if a judge is going to tell me that! I want my judges to read the laws that we pass the way we intend. If the law says gays should not have custody then they better dammned well rule that way and not on their opinions. If the law says gay can have custody then I will work to change that law but I would be just as opposed to a judge who struck that down based on the bible than I would any liberal activist judge. Perhaps you want a theocracy - I don't.
