It's about not attempting to enforce it. Try it this way then - Most policy makers don't have enough sense to poor piss out of a boot with directions on the heel! No thought was given to the how much it will cost to convert over; manufacturing lines, agriculture, and the like, are going to be in for a bunch of unneccesary expenditures because socialist Europe wants to force their way on the Isle. It's easy to sit in a meeting and pass laws; to relize the effect is a whole nother matter.

I applaud the fact that these guys made a stand - they sound like good Americans!

Understand that we think differently in politics because we are from different countries. You don't feel like, or read information about how things slowly slip away, till your overtaken by an outside force. So you let them steal little by little. That is why it is important to stand up for your rights when some hose bag is trying to convert you to something than less than before. Perhaps you cou read in some of the threads about the frog in the pan story. By the time you relize your freedoms are stolen you to will end up under the UN flag. Remember years from now that some guy in Washington state told you so.

Agreed.

No thought was given to the how much it will cost to convert over;...

So what are the estimated cost of conversion. BTW, they are not asking them to convert from the imperial standard to the metric system; they are asking that they display both standards, in accordance with British and EU law. Britain is a member of the EU, although not a full flegded one, since it has not accepted the Euro.
The Eu is simply requesting that its member states use the metric system. What difference is there between this and the US Federal Congress asking states such as California, New York, et al to use one standard system, rather than 50 different ones?

It's easy to sit in a meeting and pass laws; to relize the effect is a whole nother matter.

Which is a grave problem amongst legislators, ie, that they do not consider the full effects of their legisation.
