Traditional Catholic Action
Salon & Soiree
New Orleans, Louisiana
March 15th-17th (St. Patrick's Day Weekend)

CATHOLIC ACTION

Catholic Action is an apostolate. Its end is to win men to Christ as men were won to Christ by Peter and Paul.

Is is a social apostolate. It seeks to restore right order in society, to re-create society. But its action is not political. The breaking societies of the West cannot be renewed by economic or political panaceas.

Is is a moral sickness from which the body of society suffers, and it will not be cured by local plasters upon local symptoms. Politics, economics are phases of human behavior, but human behavior is inevitably determined by the right values which men hold, by their sense of right and wrong ...

Catholic Action restores society by converting it to Christ.

I’ll need some Latin help, but a couple suggestions.

Association of Digital Apologetics (how do you say digital in Latin?)

Faith and Internet (Fides et Internet)

Curmudgeons who care -- not related to the internet, but perhaps accurate? ;-)

Association Seeking to Keep Evangelization Live (ASKEL)

Dominus Vobiscum

Association Seeking to Keep Evangelization Live (ASKEL)

Hysterical! Particularly considering the fact I showed up as some traditionally reared but decidedly "they will know we are Christians by our Luv" Catholic and poo-pooed proselytization and such until the likes of Campion, Eastsider and Royalist got a hold of me.

Do you? I must admit I do too. =)

One hour to go before I draft a bit of copy for the bulletin. To be honest, the name gives me the perfect in to explain a bit about us as I launch into the topics we'll be presenting.

Before I request being added to the bump list, does one have to be ROMAN Catholic to join this list? I am ANGLICAN Catholic (NOT Episcopalian). I am a little tired of RCers going bug-eyed because I make this differentiation.

Of course not! I personally would love to have non-Catholics on the bumplist.

A pity you're not coming. Sounds like you could start some interesting conversations. =)

Hmm, the Italian phrase for "Internet" is rete mondiale (worldwide network). Perhaps the Latin is close?

Romulus votes for a simple and straightforward "Conspiratio" ... (letting the word -- with all its layers of meaning -- intrigue folks).

Looks like these layers will provide a certain structure for my opening comments ... with particular mention of the Holy Spirit on whom we rely as a rule to "breathe as one".

Cool. Going to write my copy now and begin preparing what will I trust will become the bones of our webpages and graphics in short order post-symposium.

I tried to figure it out. I want to the Vatican page that had all the documents they just put out regarding the internet, but they didn't have one in latin. The one in Italian (and most languages for that matter) used the word "internet" in the title, just like we would in English. I don't have any idea if that is the common usage.

I always find it funny when people get scared at statements like this from the Catholic and Protestant churches, as if you are intending to do make conversions at gunpoint.

SYMPOSIUM -- March 16, 2000 (10:00 am - 4:00 pm)

Conspiratio
"blowing or breathing together; harmony, agreement, union"

Members of ConSpiratio -- a loosely-knit group of traditional Catholic lay apologists from across the nation who defend the faith on Internet political forums -- extend to all an invitation to join them in a day of prayer, mini-presentations and discussion of Catholic Action. The symposium will be held in the newly renovated rooms of St. Patrick's Rectory on Saturday, March 16, 2002.

The day will begin with Mass at 10:00 am. Lunch and reference materials will be provided. Mini-presentation topics include Human Life, the crisis of sexual scandal (and its bearing on the argument for celibacy), the use of technology for evil, monarchy, the true legacy of Pope Pius XII and the co-opting of faith for political purpose.

Space is limited. Please contact the Rectory for reservations.

I've told them NO MORE than 27 ... even if some of Fr. Klores's folks plan on attending for only the talks in which they're interested. (Not to worry, we'll order them such that it'll be nearly impossible to pick and choose ... =)

I hope you don't mind my leaving off the comparison of Catholicism/Quantum Theory & Mechanics to Newtonian Theory/Protestantism-Determinism. Many folks with whom I've been talking are definitely intrigued by the idea but it might scare others ... =)

Well, the Italians have a bad habit, IMO, of using American (English) words rather than coining an Italian equivalent. A while (one to three years) ago, when I was doing a better job of maintaining my knowledge of Italian, rete mondiale was the way of referencing the Internet. They have probably gotten lazy and adopted "Internet". :-(

That's too bad, I kind of prefer that other countries keep their own languages. It's nice to have hope that, one day when I visit, I will actually have a decent excuse for why no one can understand me.

Aw c'mon. It wouldn't scare me since I was planning on becoming an astrophysicist before "life happened." I have come around to the idea that one needs science and religion (Faith and Reason) to have a fuller understanding of the universe. I stated my viewpoint better in If Science Is Conscious of Its Limits…

Yeah, another example is "weekend". It is possible to see la fine settimana, but far too often one will see il weekend. Italian loses so much of its mellifluousness with this trend.
