My children's windows were shut and the doors locked. There wouldn't have been a chance for anyone to get at them without my wife and I knowing. I considered that to be my responsibility!Unless the home is equiped with an alarm system that has an indoor siren most people will not wake up, if there is an intruder inside. Locking doors and windows will not keep even the most inept criminal out. One twist of a pipe wrench on a door knob will break the lock, and give free access to the home. Then it is free roam time for the intruder.
Just be thankful that nothing ever happened to your children, because it wasn't the locked doors and windows that kept the bad guys out. It might have been nothing more than chance.

In this particular house, the father woke up and noticed the alarm blinking, yet did nothing. Is that normal? For most of us, it would not be, but then we don't have a steady stream of "guests" coming in and out all night, either.
