Plot Summary for We Were Soldiers (2002)

In a place soon to be known as The Valley of Death, in a small clearing called landing zone X-Ray, Lt. Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) and 400 young fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons, all troopers from an elite American combat division, were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. The ensuing battle was one of the most savage in U.S. history. We Were Soldiers Once...And Young is a tribute to the nobility of those men under fire, their common acts of uncommon valor, and their loyalty to and love for one another.

Head for the Storm
As you faced it before
For where there is the Seventh
There’s bound to be fighting
And where there’s no fighting
It’s the Seventh no more.

If this movie is anything like "Black Hawk Down," I'll have to see it alone. My wife won't go to another one like that. She said I embarrassed her too badly ...

Your probably correct, that they are following the money. But, perhaps some of it is, the more powerful conservatives (Mel Gibson and others) are coming into more power now days.

I'm not familiar with Wallace. Or atleast the name anyway. I know many here said they disliked Pearl Harbor. We rented it about a month ago and I really enjoyed it.

All I did was cheer our guys at the appropriate times, and ... criticize ... the Somalis. At the appropriate times, of course. I may have been slightly vocal and perhaps a vulgarity escaped my lips on a rare occasion ...

Yep, money talks loudly. But, seems like it has to scream blood murder before some of those hard heads in hollywood hear.

Growing up, that's all I wanted to be was an actress. I thank G-d everyday that it didn't happen. Hollywood is a morally dark place and emotionally shallow. The money, power and fame seem to just ruin most of the people there.

Here dead lie we because we did not choose

To live and shame the land from which we sprung

Life to be sure, is nothing much to lose;

But young men think it is, and we were young.

heh heh Sounds like what me and my ROTC buddy were doing while we were watching it. When one of the Somalis took a .50-cal through the head by a Hummer gunner and another was splattered by an RPG we became more, ahem, vocal. No one seemed to mind...I think...

...Please tell your wife...

.."WE WERE SOLDIERS'.. is about the Hero Soldiers who fought each other on both sides of the Hell of Landing Zone X-Ray in the Valley of Death that was the IA DRANG-1965...

...as well as the Hero Families who took care of US upon our return home.

...Because of this ...it is as much, if not more, of a Woman's Motion Picture ..than a Man's Motion Picture.

EXAMPLE: A young 7th Cav soldier's TRUE dying words were heard at Landing Zone X-Ray...

..'TELL MY WIFE THAT I LOVE HER."

For more ...see ..'The Movie'.. Section Discussion Forum Threads of...

Thanks for the info. And sure hope Wallace and the like, make more films. I love movies, but, I'm so sick of hollywoods left leaning, screaming, raving, self righteous liberals and their morally bankrupt movies. My hubby and I go to the movies only about 3 or 4 times a year. But, this movie will have to go see.

Anyone got any info on the new Bruce Willis movie???

The one scene that clinched it for me was the scene at the second crash site where the two snipers go in to rescue the pilot. The lowlifes storm the site, and these two guys get shot to pieces, although they manage to save the pilot. Out of ammo, wounded repeatedly, one of them huddles inside the wreckage as the cowards reach around the corner to fire at him sight unseen. Eventually, they realize that he can't fight back and they rush the chopper and tear the guy to ribbons.

I came unglued.

If there had been a Somali within sight, I would have hung him by his own entrails.

Those two men won the Congressional Medal of Honor. Valor was alive that day.

If you were one of those men, then I, and this nation, owe you a debt we can never repay.

AlI can offer is a humble thank you.

I note that the bruce willis' of this brave industry still haven't overcome their unwillingness to fly to Europe. 'die hard' eh?

I'm a little confused by that statement. Bruce Willis is one of the few conservatives (by hollywierd standards anyways) in the business. He's a staunch Republican.

BTW, I got passes to a sneak preview of his upcoming WWII film, Hart's War tomorrow. I'll post a review.

Ah, Mel, what a man, wish there were more in hollywierd like him!!!!!!

FYI everybody there's a false rumor going around that Mel's dad moved the family to Australia so Mel wouldn't have to serve in 'Nam. Mel has said he "puked" such a phrase out @ age 25 and he's trying to set the record straight now. 1st off the family were still residents of AUS and citizens of the U.S. so he still could have been drafted. 2nd his dad moved the family b/c his father injured himself on the job in the U.S. Finally Mel was 16 by the time the war was over, so he was never draftable in the 1st place.
