They keep getting elected because they keep bringing home the bacon - pork that is! Once a Senator or Congressman gets into office, incumbency has it's power, so why vote them out?

After watching that exchange between Byrd and O'Neill and where they both came from poverty which you choose to immulate? Someone who earns 150,000 year after year in a gov't position or someone who becomes a CEO and a multi millionnaire? Byrd lost and even he knows it.

When Schieffer teed one up for Droollings, Droollings totally whiffed it:

Purple Rage: "Do you think that Democrats were involved in this?" [this is Ditz's cue to say "NO!!!, a thousand times NO!!!" So what does he say?]

Droollings: "Yes."

Then he rambled off on the "Bin Laden worked for Enron" idiocy.

;-)

I was hopping mad earlier that Schieffer didn't have a republican senator on with Hollings for immediate balance, but this was much better! He's an anachronism...the perfect cartoon senator..way too old for relevance... and excuse me for repeating myself. He talks so funny
As if he took Viagra, forgot to swallow, and ended up with a tumescent tongue!

Which is why the Reps have a winning philosophy. Why vote for someone who can bring home the gov't handouts when you can be a Rep and earn thousands time more the gov't handouts.

Did you notice how Mara and Juan compared Skilling to Hogan's Heros? "I know nothing". I think he resembled "the I don't recall Klinoons". Took his testimony right from their play book, if you ask me.

Of course your right - they bring home the bacon, but their constituites need to wake up that the bacon they're bringing home has a lot of fat and is going to give them a coronary.

I wish O'Neil had responded this way,

I will not apologize for spending 25 years in the private sector. Perhaps 50 years in Congress impresses you and other people in Washington DC but it doesn't impress me so get off your high horse and ask me some specific questions. I am here to talk about the budget and not cow-tow to your heavy handed sanctimony.

Byrd is such a jerk. What a mean spirited man he is.

Democrat Congressman Donald Payne, NJ, was so anxious to insult the Enron Human Resources director, he wasn't even embarrassed to question her poor memory and use of "I don't remember" responses. He asked, "Did you watch Oliver North when he testified before Congress?. He couldn't remember anything either."

I was totally irate that the next republican congressman to question didn't remind Payne of Hillary's much more famous...and current...amnesia testimony.

Be my guest. "Tumescence" was one of the word for the days last week, and I couldn't resist putting it to good political use.

"Byrd lost and even he knows it."

I agree. Byrd proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is just a small, angry, bitter, bitter old man---and his time to go home has come.

Byrd will die in office because he thinks too much of himself.

"Amnesia testimony", love it. The smartest woman in the world can't remember, can't recall, and has no knowledge of nothing relevant. Mara said, "people use these statements when they have something to hide". I sure wish someone would play Rush's montage of Hillary's "I don't recall recital" from last January 2001.

I agree. Has anyone been to oicray.com to see if he posted his report on Hillary's whitewater stuff?

I have elected to watch the cartoon channel rather than the talking head programs. Cartoons make more sense.

I lived in South Carolina after Hurricane Hugo.

Sen Hollings (D) committed fraud, waste, and abuse of Federal and State resources - - then tried to deny it.

Sen Hollings had a house on the Isle of Palms - a very nice place. After Hugo, the mayor declared Marshall Law there to prevent looting. It was a controversial decision, because people who owned homes there were not even allowed to return. What really caused a lot of the damage there for homeowners was not Hugo--but the days and days of rain that the area recieved afterwards.

Sen Hollings was touring the devastated area by National Guard helicopter. He ordered the flight crew to land on the beach near his property. They initially would not comply, and explained to him it was against their orders. Then Senator and his wife insisted, so the helicopter landed. He got out, secured doors and windows, retrieved personal effects, and flew away.

On a local AM radio station afterwards, he mumbled something about estimating the wind velocity of Hugo by measuring the "twistiness" of his door frames as justification!!!

Typical Democrat. The Rules don't apply to him.
