Need Advice on Weapons Purchase

Hello Everyone,

I am currently in the market to purchase a personal handgun, and would like some advice on what would be a good choice. The only requirements I have are that it must be a .40 S&W and be small and concealable. If you have any experience with a weapon that looks like it would meet those requirements, please post and let me know.

I was going to mention the traitor aspect myself but then I remembered my wife has a lightweight .38 hammerless PD titanium model and felt a twinge of hypocrisy. LOL

Have you had any feeding problems?

I've put about 2000 rounds through my P229 and P239 combined with zero feeding problems.

The Glock and H&K are the only two I have handeled so far (have not shoot them yet). I have big hands, so anything small is unconfratable, but my wife will be using the weapon also, and she hates the Beretta 96.

I'll check out those other weapons (Kimber Ultra Carry, Sig Personal, Para Ordnance P-Series).

I see the issue that you have to contend with now. Isn't it strange, the FBI went to 10mm then to 40 cal and the best of the lot get the 1911 (HRT) 45 cal. That should tell you something. I would pass that on to the powers to be.

Glock is an excellent choice in .40 cal.

Glock 22 in large frame.

Glock 23 in commander frame.

Glock 27 in mini frame for CCW.

It's just the ammo they issue us for the Beretta.

I'm with you Capt., any Colt or Colt style feels mighty comfortable in my hand....with one exception....my dad's old High Power...I can't hit sqaut with it and it's a beast to manage the slide.

I must confess that I still have a fondness for my old Beretta 92SB which although bulkier than the 1911 style still feels quite nice and shoots smooth and accurate...going on 20 years now.

The INS just issued a modified H&K USP to the Special Agents. They had about 2000 extra and sold them to any INS LEO for $500.00, and it included 2 LEO 13 round mags.

Unfortunately, I did not get my money together in time and missed out.

So now I'm looking around. I really like the feel for the H&K, but it's a little more money than the Glock.

Take a look at the Kahr MK40.
Probably the most compact .40 on the market.
I have the 9mm version, which is just a hair
smaller. Shoots fine for what it is and no
problems. If something does crop up, Kahr
will make it right. They are supposedly coming
out with a polymer-framed version, but that will
probably be a handful in .40.

I'd suggest the Glock 27, but if your hands are large, that could be a problem. Pierce magazine extensions make the M27 much easier to handle.

The following information may be helpful Taurus firearms often accept Beretta magazines. The Sig P239 is an exellent compact .40 S&W and has been very reliable for friends who carry that caliber. The P229 has also had an exellent record of reliability according to friends who carry it. My tastes have run to the .45acp and the 9mm (I find the savings on ammunition alone to justify shooting this at the range). I also believe Beretta makes a compact .40S&W. If you like the feel of Beretta's then the Tauris should feel good to your hands.

Be very careful before you choose a Kahr.

"Gun Tests" magazine rates the K40 as "Don't Buy";
however a MK40 is rated "Conditional buy" as a belly gun.
