Need Advice on Weapons Purchase
Marine Inspector | 02/09/02 | Marine Inspector

Posted on 02/09/2002 9:26:12 AM PST by Marine Inspector

Hello Everyone,

I am currently in the market to purchase a personal handgun, and would like some advice on what would be a good choice. The only requirements I have are that it must be a .40 S&W and be small and concealable. If you have any experience with a weapon that looks like it would meet those requirements, please post and let me know.

Thanks,

Marine Inspector.

I don't believe you were ever a member. If you were why don't you give us your membership #?

I don't believe you were ever a member either, so give me your membership number, and while were passing along personel information, why doen't you give me your SSN.

I am in the market. Would this be a good choice for a woman with small hands?

My previous very tiny girlfriend found the grips on the P228 (9mm, 13-round mag) only a little too large for her, so the new compact models, especially the ones with an inline mag, should be okay.

So any one who does not give money to the NRA, is anit-gun ownership?

No but those who attack it for defending others rights, (not yours as an LEO) are anti gun. Plain and simple the NRA defends my right to own a gun. If it wasn't for them people like you would be collecting them like in Australia, England, NYC, and California.

Actually, you have it backwards. The NRA is the leading gun-control organization in the US today.

That is because you are a Federal LEO. The Law doesn't apply to you.,

I get no special privileges as a FED/LEO, in the case of purchasing a private weapon. I go through the same checks as anyone else in the US.

Your ignorance is showing.

Ok first why don't you tell me how many digits long the NRA's membership number is. You would have an old style Membership number so it will be short. How many digits mr exNRA member?

A lot of good advice on this thread.

If money is not a deciding factor, I agree with those who recommend one of the Sigs. You also can't go wrong with Glock.

I have one of the lesser known .40's and have been completely happy with it. A couple of years ago I was in a shop and noticed a Star Firestar on sale for $155.00 It was like new except for a few light rust spots on one side.

This pistol is very compact and about as accurate as any other good .40, in fact it might be a little better than average. It is all steel and should be durable. (some of the Star 9mm's have gone over 100,000 rounds as gun range rentals)

The only drawback is that it is pretty heavy. If you carry it in a holster this shouldn't be a real problem. That weight does help with recoil too.

I have only fired mine about 300 rounds but it has been perfect so far. For those who like the feature (I am one that does), It can be carried cocked and locked. The safety is large and easy to move off under stress.

All in all, I think the Star is about as good as any and for a lot less money.

Go bury a few more guns or talk to your militia buddies about it.

Harold Volkmer has not been right since he ran into a cinder pile at 60MPH. Not surprising HE was speaking out in favor of CARA. He just DOES NOT GET IT!

Folks who can't place him? Think back to when Mr. Newt was going to "toss lil' childrun out in the cold and take away wheel chairs." Volkmer was big, tall guy whom denounced Republicans, Conservatives and Mr. Newt in the strongest of terms! He once said if taxes needed to be raised they should be! People of Missouri kicked him out of Congress and elected Kenny Hulsof.

A couple years later, when his name appeared in AMERICAN RIFLEMAN on NRA Board Ballot I nearly RAAAALPH'd! And he got elected! All should contact their state NRA reps and BITCH about CARA!

---------

I'm from Missouri, where we elect the dead, but can't vote for Ted!

That's not what I said. My beef with your position is not that you are not an NRA member (I am) but rather that you feel that the NRA is no better than the anti-gun forces because in your mind's eye, the NRA distorts the truth. I for one would prefer to see a united front against the anti-RKBA forces but with your position as well as those who now eschew the NRA because they are too pragmatic or not radical enough, we are left fractionalized and it's no suprise our enemies have gained ground in recent years...so yes one has to make a choice here. If you have qualms about the NRA then I hope you are helping the fight elsewhere.

I read also on your post that now you will not vote Pubbie either and support only FR (whatever that means). Well, that's your perogative but you are by default handing your vote to the Dems which is an across the board defeat for conservative ideals period. You should read JR's remarks to all of us about setting aside pettiness to insure conservative victories. He leans fairly Libertarian himself but he's no fool.

Idealism is great....Libertarians thrive on this precept but I prefer the real world of increments and the big picture. If you reject taking a side because you dislike a small part of it then you should bear the fruit of your naivete stoically.

"Rest assured that NRA would not attach its name and support to a bill if its effect was to infringe upon any of our members' Constitutional rights. Our support for CARA is tied to Title III which is one title of ten in the bill."
Supporting one tenth of a bill is hardly supporting it.

Finding an excuse to sit on the sidelines is always easier than doing something. For some it's CARA, or what the NRA didn't do in '34 or '68. Or their favorite excuse which I find laughable, "They're not a no-compromise organization". That one cracks me up.

Well, since you won't give up, here it is.

On my gray NRA menbership card, the number above my name is LXT7246M, and in the bottom right hand corner are the numbers 02251. Not sure what they are for.

The card was issued on 04/30/00. It is not the first card I ever had, but for now it is the last.

Now go away.

So you agree? Yet you chastise MI for not supporting the largest gun-control organization in the U.S. today?

You know, you could have done that privately. I'm sitting here squinting away from the screen because I don't want to see any of this personal information, kind of how I reflexively look away whenever anyone is typing a password into a computer.

The first thing to do is make sure you're a member of the N.R.A. and G.O.A. It doesn't do much good to buy firearms if you can't keep them.

I read also on your post that now you will not vote Pubbie

This is exactly what I mean about misinformation. I stated that I cancelled my membership to the Republican Party. I.E. I don't send them money anymore. I never said I would not vote for the Republicans. I always vote, and I always vote Republican.

But I don't have to send them my money.

It's just an old membership number, probaly belongs to someone else now.

And I doubt the NRA would give this guy any of my info.
