As a long term Californian, I have watched liberalism steadily destroy this state. Our roads, schools, quality of life --> you name it, it has gone steadily down hill over the last 20 years of Democratic domination of the legislature

Because of this, I have made a simple decision: I will never again vote for a liberal, regardless of party affiliation. In the primary, I will happily vote for Simon. If Riordan wins the primary, I will not vote for a gubernatorial candidate.

That may mean Red Davis will win again. But if liberal policies are going to sink the state, I'd rather Democrats get the blame.

Eventually, the Republican party will either dissolve, and be replaced by a truly Conservative party, or will begin nominating conservatives. Either outcome is acceptable to me. This is one conservative who refuses to ever again vote for the lesser of two evils.

Thanks for the thoughts. I have my primary absentee ballot in hand, and as a staunch conservative I'm struggling with what to do. You've summed up the situation very well. Riordan appears unacceptable, but I don't know if Simon can beat Davis (unless you've lived in CA it's difficult to understand how Davis could win after what he's done, but just remember Barbara Boxer and Barbara Lee, and it helps non-residents to understand). Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful thoughts; I'm still thinking.

As a footnote, I know what you mean about the lesser of two evils. I don't live in SF, but I own real estate there and deal with the local politics. As you probably know, the Republicans ended up endorsing Willie Brown for mayor because his opponent, Tom Amianno, is a communist. It's a tough political situation here in CA.

hooray hooray hooray!!! You have the right idea, don't vote for any liberals! Be willing to vote non-republican if the Republican is a dog! Remember, Barry Goldwater wrote a book about himself and in that book he said that he had voted a split ticket in every election his entire life. If the Repubs and Dems both put forth a liberal, then vote Reform party!
