Yes, I think the lack of response to the Spectator articles I posted is due to the time difference. I posted them mid-afternoon here in the UK, which is early morning in the US, so they don't get noticed as much as articles posted later in the day. I'll wait a day or two before posting from the Spectator in future, unless it's an article of specific interest to British freepers. The Spectator website is usually updated about Thursday lunchtime (UK time).

I thought about that, but actually your post turned up here at about 9:30 a.m. Eastern time, which is probably a pretty good time to catch a lot of Freepers having their morning java and checking the news from work. So I'm inclined to attribute the tepid response to apathy, and perhaps a tinge of anti-intellectualism among the majority of Freepers.

When I said the Spectator shows up later here, I meant the hard copy. Though I think very few people get that here, I can't live without it. In my opinion, it's the best written publication in the world, and indispensible to anyone who enjoys conservative commentary written well.

In any event, thanks for the post. I'm still surprised at the lack of response to your post of the Simon Heffer piece, though I seem to have started a minor row over it with someone else on another, unrelated thread.
