This just reported on Fox news. A 10 year old child in Pennsylvania was accidentally shot in the head during a school demonstration by an off-duty cop.
The child is expected to survive.
He was giving a demonstration in a school I would assume
With a loaded weapon??!!!
What an idiot!
I am a hardcore pro gun nut, but I just cringe everytime I see a Glock, reguardless if its loaded or not.
My heart goes out to the little boy..and his family who must be worried sick. And, to the Policeman!!!!
Human error. Maybe even a case of stupid judgement or lack of. But again human. I imagine there are incidents of off duty Policeman hitting innocent kids with their cars too. Also lethal if used incorrectly. Doesn't make it fair.. but life has accidents.
Maybe we can start posting how often a Policeman/woman SAVES a kids life??? (Probably not enough bandwidth at even FR to handle all those!!)
Still a 2nd Ammendment advocate. This story is a tragic reminder that even those with exceptional experience,.. must never become complacent.
They will all be in our prayers.
Everyone thinks that a gun in the hand of a cop is fine, but that a gun in the hands of us sheeple is the most dangerous thing in the world.
Let's get real. Every human is responsible for his/her own self defense. The cops look good but NO ONE should feel any safer just because they have the gun and you don't.
Keeping in mind the basic rules of weapons handling you can never go wrong. As a matter of fact I managed to kill a kitchen floor tile over the weekend with my Ruger MkII .22/.45. The wife wasn't too happy about it, but I was glad that the tile was the only injured party, thanks to Rule #1.
BTW.. your absolutely right!!! Even an unloaded gun should be treated as if it is loaded..and the safety is OFF.
Sad case of easing up on what we all know you MUST do. And the sad consequences of it.
You disengage it by pulling the trigger, about 5 pounds of pressure is all it takes for this gun to go off.
Other Semi-auto loaders such as the Sig has no external safety so it incorporates a heavier trigger pull, plus it has a hammer, that if blocked will stop the gun from going off.
An example would be a Glock in a holster, if it hard enough could and has gone off, but the Sig would not.
Gee, I don't know what you have against Glocks.
Why should it give gun owners a bad rep when it was a police officer who made this mistake? Note that the gun grabbers parrot how only the police and military should have guns.
BS!!
He was handling a loaded weapon!!!!
He pointed a weapon in the direction of a person
He pulled the trigger!
