This just reported on Fox news. A 10 year old child in Pennsylvania was accidentally shot in the head during a school demonstration by an off-duty cop.
The child is expected to survive.
My guns are (1) all loaded (2) never pointed at something I don't wish to destroy (3) never have a finger on their triggers util I am (4) sure of my target and ready to shoot. Y'all better follow suit before you shoot something you wish you hadn't with your revolvers or 1911's.
The problem comes when the gun is not properly handled and all the safety rules are not followed. I dare say they were not in this case. Some other designs will keep a careless user from hurting himself or someone else. Of course, you can look at this two ways. It also means that people may habitually be more careless with the gun, because they think it has safeties that will protect them.
Not that this should be used to identify a "loaded" weapon because - as many have stated - all Weapons are loaded - unless dismantled. But, this can be useful information when confronted with a Glock... Just be DAMN sure you know what you're looking for.
Admittedly, it takes a relatively high level of knowledge/experience to identify this.
- for what it's worth... There are also some "strategic" moves to temporarily 'disable' the weapon - but that's a whole different topic - and is an "extreme measure".
Glocks are excellent weapons and very reliable. It's concerning to me, that some people here are trying to take blame off the officer and put it on the weapon....
Child wounded by officer's gunshot in show-and-tell
"A 10-year-old boy was grazed in the head by a bullet during a show-and-tell presentation by an off-duty police officer at a Germantown charter school today.
The boy, identified as James Reeves, was in good condition this afternoon, after being rushed to Temple University Hospital from the Imani Education Circle School in the 5600 block of Greene Street in Germantown.
Authorities said he received a graze wound to his right cheek about 2:45 p.m.
Philadelphia Police Lt. Sue Slawson said the incident remained under investigation. The officer, Vanessa Carter-Morange, was off-duty and participating in a show-and-tell presentation at the school where her son is enrolled.
Police said the gun apparently discharged when the officer dropped it in the classroom.
Carter-Morange, 39, has been with the police department since 1996 and is currently assigned to the Ninth District. Slawson said the officer will be removed from the street while a routine internal affairs investigation is conducted."
Well I hope they give that weapon the spanking it deserves.
Exactly right ... taking the blame away from the individual and placing it on the weapon is what the gun-grabbers do ... guns do not do anything on their own ... it takes an idiot to make them do something stupid ...
Exactly right.
Glocks are not for the unenlightend. The key difference is hey're prone to negligent discharge as opposed to accidental discharge
Glad you cleared that up and forgive my rants.
No. They have no external safety, which makes some people squeamish ;). I love my G17. 17+1 rounds of 9mm
ALL guns are loaded - always. Period. Rule Number One.
If this is true (big if) then I would be comfortable concluding that the gun was probably not a Glock and that this all would not have happened if it was.
But like I said, if this is true.
Philadelphia - (11-21-01) The Associated Press reports Officers Gina McFadden and Dawn Norman have been charged with sending an obscenity-laced anthrax hoax from their patrol car computer to every police car and dispatch center within the city. Authorities claim part of the message read: "We don't care ... We can't stand America. We have anthrax in our car ..." The nine charges against each officer could carry as much as 46 years if convicted, including felony counts of criminal mischief and criminal conspiracy and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and making false reports.
None of the articles I've found had the transcript of the conversation. But Dom Giordano has insiders at the Roundhouse (Philly police HQ). The women cursed the flag, praised Islam, and cheered the WTC destruction. Nobody, I mean nobody came to the defense of these two turds. They are probably doing time right now.
