BOMBAY, India (AP) - The Dalai Lama was discharged from the hospital on Saturday after weeklong treatment for a stomach infection, a hospital official said.

The Tibetan spiritual leader walked out of Lilavati hospital on his own, though looking a bit pale and frail.

"He was treated for bowel infection of amoebic origin," said Prakash Mhatre, director of operations at Lilavati Hospital in Bombay.

The Dalai Lama is expected to spend the next few days in Bombay, the capital of western Maharashtra state.

"I am fine and feeling much better," Press Trust of India news agency quoted him as telling a large gathering of Tibetans outside the hospital.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was hospitalized last Sunday after doctors who examined him in the eastern state of Bihar suspected he had a lump in his stomach.

He was flown to Bombay after he complained of abdominal pains in Bodh Gaya, a Buddhist religious center in Bihar state. He missed the Kal Chakra, a 10-day Tibetan Buddhist religious service attended by thousands of his followers from various countries.

A medical checkup at the same hospital in early December had returned normal tests, Mhatre said.

The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 with thousands of supporters after a failed uprising against China. Since then, he has headed a government-in-exile in the northern Indian town of Dharmsala. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his nonviolent struggle against Chinese rule.

Lets also not forget that when Lucifer macked over Job, he only did it on God's say so, and in accord with the rules of engagement and conduct that God laid down. Even after his fall, it seems Lucifer still took orders from the Big G. Go fig....

Your problem (beyond being headed for eternal damnation by choice) with respect to not understanding the scriptures is nothing that a good class in hermeneutics wouldn't clear up. On second thought, without the Spirit of God to guide you, you'll never get it.

You know, Lex makes some excellent points in his initial post. Yet you appear to be too fearful to address them. What is it you are afraid of. If he is misguided, then you should explain to him (and us) why he is wrong when he quotes certain parts of the Bible to back up his theory that Jesus said some things way out in left field (no pun intended).

If he's misguided, then isn't it your job to tell him exactly HOW he's misguided, instead of pulling this "You are too far gone to understand." act?

Go fig....

Yup. If we could completely understand G-d, he wouldn't be that much of a G-d, eh?

The following is a link to an article from the October 99 issue of Bible Review. East Meets West is a side by side comparison of Buddhism and Christianity, including quotes, stories, and a bit of history.

East Meets West

Here's an excerpt: "The similarities include not only parallel sayings and stories, a selection of which appear in the sidebars, but broader similarities that go beyond individual sayings and stories."

"Life-transforming experiences of this kind were foundational for both Jesus and the Buddha. According to Buddhist and Christian traditions, dramatic experiences of the sacred stand at the beginning of the Buddha's and Jesus' public lives.1 Each was about 30 years old at the time. The Buddha's long religious quest led to his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, after which he began his public activity. Jesus' public activity began after his visionary experiences at his baptism and in the wilderness.

Both became teachers of wisdom who taught a "way" or "path"--a point to which I will return. As wisdom teachers, both also taught ethics--describing the kind of behavior that goes with following the path. Their ethical teachings are quite similar. The parallels involve both particular teachings--nonretaliation, love of enemies, not judging others, the dangers of wealth--and general principles--such as the centrality of compassion."

It was an interesting read. :)

Your perceived contradictions do not make it so. Yes, I know of your spiritual father. He was a liar from the beginning and you appear to have bought them all.

It think I've been here longer on this thread than you have, so don't talk to me about not addressing this poster. Now, as to educating him to each and every one of his perceived biblical contradictions will require months and much bandwidth. And to what end with a skeptic who chooses to be an enemy of the cross? If he were truly seeking to know God, this would not be the forum in which to do that.

Of course, you know that the Heb. in that text relates to a concept of creating calamity not sin. But you are right that there is nothing done without him. He makes peace, put here for all good; and creates evil, not the evil of sin, but the evil of punishment. He is the Author of all that is true, holy, good, or happy; and evil, error, and misery, came into the world by his permission, through the wilful apostacy of his creatures, but are restrained and overruled to his righteous purpose.

I recognize that you don't acknowledge your spiritual father or know his current authority over your life. As to explaining every perceived biblical "contradiction" - I know you are not seeking the Truth. But as I said, I pray that you will.

Someone has their denial mojo in full overdrive. When the argument might pose too much of a strain on fragile belief, close your eyes and hum. Or better yet, try to disconnect from the issue and persons involved. Cults like Scientology do this all the time, to keep their followers isolated from any "influences" that might shake their "faith." They especially like to do this with former Christians when they tell them that Jesus was just a lie made up by aliens in our minds....

Okay, if YOU do have answers to the questions originally posed by Lex, then obviously you wouldn't mind posting up books, links, etc, so we can do our own research. Forgive us please, for not lapping up every little word in the Bible as...er...Gospel (heh). I guess us "Doubting Thomases" are just horrible, monsterous enemies of the Cross. Grrr...snarl. Woof. Isn't everyone entitled to salvation, according to your argument? If you die today, and Peter says "Well, I see here you had a chance to point the way to salvation to some nonbelievers on Free Republic, but your heart was too filled with hate and fear to do so." what will you tell him?

my religion??

Is my assumption that you are a Christian off the mark then? Yes or no? If you are a question, then please address the question I made. Why do you think it appropriate to complain about how Christianity is "bashed on" while others are spared...only to turn around and bash another religion in the face. Should you not practice what you preach? Should you not do unto others as you would want others to do unto you? Or does that just "play well", but isn't pragmatic for day to day purposes?

LOL! I'm hardly in denial, but I am able to discern sincere interest vs. those who are bent on mocking God. And I would suggest that someone who is already convinced that Jesus must be a "bonehead" is doing just that. Besides, I am responsible for pointing to Him who can reveal Truth, not for their salvation.

More exciting comparisons between Christianity and Buddhism: East Meets West

Love your enemies,do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. From anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. (Luke 6:27-30)

Hatreds do not ever cease in this world by hating, but by love; this is an eternal truth ... Overcome anger by love, overcome evil by good. Overcome the miser by giving, overcome the liar by truth. (Dhammapada 1.5 and 17.3)

He never called Jesus a bonehead, just that SOME of the things he said SEEMED boneheaded. And I have to ask...are you up for a nice cyanide smoothie right now? See where I'm going with this?
