We can thank Ken Lay for putting this gem in office. (Remember, he is a "Republican.")

Okay, I'll bite. Why do we have to thank Ken Lay for this?

I can't answer for Ben, but Ken Lay has taken a very active role in Houston politics, mostly for people we don't like.

How much of a hand he had in selecting Sheila for this seat which had been Barbara Jordan's I don't know. But Lay actively supported the re-election of Lee Brown, the inept liberal mayor of Houston.

Lay is apolitical, as far as I can tell. Whoever is likely to win is who he backs. He always wanted to back the winner. Sheila and her district are rock-solid Democrat winners. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had a hand in helping someone to win that district.

The truth is, now that he's resigned, we can blame 'ole Ken for everything. Isn't that how the corporate world works?
