A "baiting" technique like this is still used in undergraduate college, and works like a charm on some, as we've seen here.
The issue I mentioned in Ireland was the topic of (one of many) spirited academic debates, and a staunch Catholic won a debate on the side of medically aborting the dead fetus in order to save the mother. I wonder if that "staunch Catholic" has a medical or law future in Ireland.

Many studies, reports, and personal testimonies by women who have become pregnant following rape have demonstrated a clear and close relationship between carrying the child to term and healing from the rape experience. In other words, the woman who aborts a child conceived in rape has a much more difficult time "getting over" or healing from the rape than a woman who carries the child to term and delivers it.
