It is true that they have announced that the plans for the "altered" statue have been cancellled. At the same time they indicated that they would pursue "other" plans for a memorial. They still haven't announced what those plans are.

I do not trust them as far as I can throw them and so we are continuing the petiton now (according to point two in the petition) to insure that whatever plans they come up with are not politically motivated or historically inaccurate. Otherwise, in a few months they will quietly erect some other monstocity.
