The reason you have missed it is because while it was going broke GX was one of the top ten soft money contributors in 2001. It spent in excess of $600K, two thirds of which went to Democrats. Second, once you open the GX can of worms you have to move on to NextWave, with its close ties to GX and to the Dems. NextWave is another bankrupt outfit, but its CEO Allen Salmasi still managed to contribute $10K to Torricelli's Defense Fund.

From Global Crossing to NextWave to Allen Salmasi, one then has to check out the Clinton tie to Salmasi, Salmasi's ties to the former Drexel Burnham Lambert gang and to Bay Harbour Management. Then you not only have to check the involvment of Torricelli, but Schumer as well. In other words, still waters run deep on this one, and the press doesn't know where it might lead. However, all preliminary indications are that this one can tar the Democrats badly.
