>"Light My Fire" -- I thought the words were...."Girl We Couldn't Get Much Higher"

The incident as I read it concerned the song "Break On Through (to the other side)"

This is a little off thread, but let's repair to the FreeRepublic Lounge, where the Lizard King himself is crooning away--

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah
We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Yeah!
C'mon, yeah
Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!
Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through (X4)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Break on Through

Actually the song was "Light My Fire." The forbidden lyric was "girl we couldn't get much higher..."

This is what happened, from my source...

"you are right the Doors did light my fire and people are strange on the Ed Sullivan show, not break on through,.. the lyric "she get high" came from the Doors absolutely live record version of break on through done in Detroit in 1970"
