Noone responded to the post upthread that the prescribing doc is a radiation oncologist. That is curious. The pic is so sad,,she looks just terrible. I feel sad for her and Jeb and Columba. And parents often don't know what is going on with a kid on a medication. Still we don't know what is happening with her. She might have been given xanax for anxiety for whatever reason and escalated the dose on her own to control symptoms. I for one will reserve judgement till I know any details. And I do think the press is leaping on this with glee right from comparing xanax to heroin,,gee whiz they even skipped the ever popular vallium. And why is it a surprise that substance addiction including alcohol and tranquilizers runs in families,,there is a genetic substrate to addiction and tranquilizers aren't that different from alcohol. A family with the propensity for addiction has to learn generation to generation that they cannot drink or use tranquilizers. And the kids often don't take the example of the parents to heart until they feel it themselves. This is very sad.

If the young woman has cancer, that will leave a lot of people on this thread, and the press, with a lot of egg on their faces. What a terrible burden this would be for her family!

And I do think the press is leaping on this with glee right from comparing xanax to heroin, Even the rats at DUh seemed taken back by that stretch by the media. I guess that they didn't want to have to explain to their parents that they didn't go on heroin after the 2000 election, it was just an anxiety medication named Xanex...
