In politics things don't happen without a reason. With the illegal alien matter you have spoils for both of the two biggest parties - the Ds get votes/ethnic campaign workers and the Rs get people they can pay less, and help in holding wages down for other workers. This problem will be ameliorated when we have a large enough amount of voter discontent - a big enough financial meltdown, maybe. On the ID matter, the only people you'd have to force to carry IDs are aliens - with quick deportation the sanction. I like your white cat - it reminds me of one I had in Houston. She lived 13 years, and enhanced my life.
