I think you and I will have to agree to disagree too. :-) I don't see anything offensive by the statues. I'm really not sure why our AG would worry about it. The statues have been there for over 60 years and not any other politician of any sort has given it a second thought. Just seems to me there is far more urgent bidness to take care of than to worry about some old naked statue that nobody pays any attention to anyway.

Well, you can disagree with me if you want - but I think you missed the point I was trying to make. The statue is not a problem for me - I would walk into any museum and look at nude statues and it would not bother me. I don't even have a problem with it being where it is at the front of the Justice Dept.

However, this particular statue was BEING USED to embarass Ashcroft. The way it was being used was, the photographer would position a picture of Ashcroft exactly where the uncovered breast would end up in the picture next to Ashcroft's face. As a Christian, and I might add very Godly man, that was very embarassing. But, our wonderful media were using it much too frequently. That was their big mistake. Ashcroft soon realized they were using that statue everytime he made a speech in that room. Ashcroft got tired of it and decided to call their bluff! The media are the ones who made a big deal out of it - and they got caught!

But ... no real journalist/photographer would have allowed such a picture to ever make it to the public arena. The fact that the picture was allowed - tells me everything I want to know about the photographer and the print media who went ahead and printed it.
