I think JA was correct in coverning up the statue
That's his right, IMHO. He has the right not to be photographed with a statue that creates double entndre.
Dude, who is going to think something like that (double entndre), other than some sick-o? Going there, either pre-emptively or from the pages of some goofy left-wing rag makes either look like a perv.

Honestly, I've seen that statue probably a dozen times and haven't thought once about it on that level.

Again, if he was so worked up about this, why didn't he take the non-stupid way out of this and just replace (or swap with some other federal location) both statues? Why did he have to take the most bone-headed option available?

Maybe to just to show how 'intolerant' the preachers of 'tolerance' are? Respect is a two-way street. The photographers 'took their shots'. Ashcroft is entitled to his, IMHO.
