SNL was gone as soon as Chevy Chase left, once he was gone, it was all downhill from there. Haven't watched it but once since then, and it just proved the point. They are SOOO NOT funny.....

Chevy CHASE? HE'S funny?

Eddie Murphy isn't funny? Or, more accurately, Eddie Murphy was NEVER funny?

Martin Short wasn't funny?

Phil Hartman wasn't funny? The sketch in which Reagan orchestrated every last detail of Iran-Contra, even speaking fluent Arabic and Swedish, was the best political sketch of all time, and probably accurate. Second best was the sketch of Ross Perot dropping his VP candidate (whose name escapes me) off in the woods like an unwanted dog... "GRIDLOCK!!!" THIRD best was the most brutal bitch-slap of liberalism ever, "Dukakis After Dark," in which Willie Horton "dirty danced" with Donna Rice.

Julia Louise-Dreyfuss wasn't funny? I think she's probably the funniest woman alive.

Jan Hooks wasn't funny? Watch the Alamo sequence from Pee Wee's Big Adventure again - that was one of the best parodies ever filmed.

"Funny" is a subjective term, but I personally see a lot of exceptions to your statement.

This is true, but I liked the OLD SNL, with James Belushi, and Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner, once they were gone, I watched every once in a while, but it just was NOT the same.

My favorites would be the Mr. Bill skits, the news with Chevy and Gilda, and of course the Samurai skits, the samurai skits just killed me!!

You can add the skit from 2 weeks ago with Clinton at Buddy's funeral. That was *CLASSIC*

Ohmigod! I still have that on tape somewhere! I loved the part where he groused about having to do photo ops with a Girl Scout, saying "This is the part of the job I really hate!"

Thanks for reminding me of a total classic. :-D

Yeah, Chevy Chase is overrated. The early SNL stuff pretty good, but the show didn't hit its stride until the mid-80's, in my opinion. To me, the pinnacle was from about '88 through '94 or so. Sprockets, Anal Retentive Chef, Yard-a-pult, George Bush, Deep Thoughts, Daily Affirmations, Sarcastic Clapping Family, Happy Fun Ball, Dennis Miller's Weekend Update, etc... Plus, the G.E. Smith band was ultra-righteous.

I'll repeat for the record here, anyone who hasn't seen it for a long time, simply MUST watch the Alamo sequence from Pee Wee's Big Adventure again, to see what kind of genius Jan Hooks possesses. As a lifelong Texan myself, it's very obvious that Paul Reubens (and Ms. Hooks) has spent a lot of time in Texas. "My name... is Tee-na... Do we have any Mexican-Americans with us today? Well Buenos Dias!" The first time I saw that was in a theatre in a tiny Texas town, and the whole audience was just crying from laughter.
