I'm confident the politicians know what they are doing. Abortion is a GOP policy, after all. That's the beauty of their "I'm personally opposed, BUT ..." mantra.

They rely on the faith of their pro-life constituents to power them into office USING abortion and them they consistently vote against the Right to Life.

One of the most egregious example of the late GOP Senate being its claim that -- because the vote on the Schumer Amendment looked like it was going to be a tie and, gasp, give Gore good press from the leftwing media should he break the tie vote -- they were forced to split their consciences and pass the Schumer Amendment. Does 80-17 sound like a near "tie" to you?

For the most part, they are liars. We've handful of men who vote their consciences (including the likes of Ron Paul who, unfortunately, is so conscientious he keeps to his charter and won't touch abortion at the federal level). The rest can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned. I suspect many will.

Particularly those who -- like President Bush -- go so far as to dangle the Scripture of his "favorite philosopher" in prime time as he announces his decision to fund research on "Excess" manufactured human lives that have "already been killed."

You'd think the ACLU, ADL and the like would have been up in arms over his blatant use of Christian Scripture in his first televised addressed. Guess the goods they got were too overwhelming to make a peep about it.

Who'd have guessed the "Moral Majority" would be too busy high-fiving each other over Bush's Clintonesque ability to keep a campaign promised or the prime time Scripture mention to "inform consciences". I'm sure the ACLU, ADL and others were content to know that -- when it all boils down -- ACTIONS speak LOUDER than words.

Catholics who deal scandalously with the Church are subject to "a just penalty". See the Code of Canon Law, especially BOOK VI : SANCTIONS IN THE CHURCH PART II : PENALTIES FORPARTICULAR OFFENCES TITLE I: OFFENCES AGAINST RELIGION AND THE UNITY OF THE CHURCH (Cann. 1364 - 1369) and following.
