You didn't highlight this:

Counting by category, however, obscures the deeper story: the social change accompanying this demographic transformation. Intermarriage is rising, and more Americans can identify themselves as multiracial.

So Rand confirms that it's not black and white (excuse the pun) as Pat contends.

There are more muti-racial people. Whites marry Asians, whites marry Hispanics, blacks marry Hispanics, Asians marry blacks...

And these mutiracial people are part of American culture. Not "white" culture. AMerican culture.

You see why some people think Pat's a xenophobe?

The undeniable truth is that the modern world has brought different races into proximity. As we have become increasingly less tribal and more national, the difference between the races becomes less significant, at least to many people.

Most Americans have long since abandoned the notion that it's important that someone of Nordic descent marry someone with a similar genealogical background. Most whites are already "mutts" with ancestors from various parts of Europe.

The interaction of the various races will invariably lead to intermarriage. This has always happened throughout history, but it's only going to increase. I don't know how long it will take, but I think it's inevitable that the races will eventually disappear. Certainly it will be within 1,000 years, and perhaps half of that.

Does that mean nations will disappear? Of course not. Nor will cultures or religion. There are many things that are peculiar to the people who live in the region and most of them have absolutely nothing to do with race.
